Facilities
Elmhurst College has the resources it needs to provide physics majors with a thorough, comprehensive, and varied education. Here’s some of what you’ll find here:
- A 750,000-volt Cockcroft-Walton accelerator, allowing students to maintain and operate an actual particle accelerator, and design and carry out their own experimental research studies.
- Our very own observatory, complete with a telescope powerful enough to reveal “not just the rings of Saturn, but also the splits between the rings,” says Brian Wilhite, assistant professor of physics.
- Extensive computing facilities, designed especially for students of the sciences.
- “Smart” classrooms, equipped with up-to-the-minute technologies, including cable TV, DVD and CD capabilities, a wireless presentation system, and a data port at every chair.
- A full complement of introductory and advanced laboratories.
And as science evolves, so does Elmhurst. We constantly plan new upgrades to our facilities to stay on the cutting edge.
