Engineering Options

The Department of Physics offers several options for students who wish to study engineering. All of these options are designed to provide both a broader educational experience and a stronger basic science background than is provided by the traditional engineering curriculum. These options are:

  • Parallel Dual-Degree Program: This unique program, offered in cooperation with Illinois Institute of Technology, allows you to earn two degrees—a B.S. in physics from Elmhurst and a B.S. in engineering from IIT—usually in five years. More…
  • “3-2” Dual-Degree Program: After taking basic science and general education courses at Elmhurst over three years, a student completes two years of  engineering study at a cooperating university. This program leads to a B.S. degree in physics and a B.S. in engineering. More…
  • Sequential Degree Alternative: Many students complete a physics degree at Elmhurst and then go to graduate school for one or two additional years to obtain a master’s degree in an engineering specialty. More…
