Ken Bartels Vice President for College Relations
Ken Bartels leads a team that serves as the institution's public voice and principal contact with a range of external constituencies. The work of his office embraces public relations, sports information, government relations, church relations, and campus events. A graduate of Carthage College, he served as a development associate at Carthage and at Marquette University before joining the Elmhurst administration in 1981. As vice president for college advancement, he led a series of successful capital campaigns.
Denise Jones Vice President for Finance and Administration
Denise Jones has advanced the Elmhurst tradition of balanced budgets, careful stewardship, and sound management. A 1990 alumna of Elmhurst, she joined the staff of the College in 1984 and served as accounting supervisor and controller before her appointment as a vice president in 1996. She oversees the institution's financial and human resources operations as well as campus maintenance and security. She holds a master's degree in organizational behavior from Benedictine University.
James Kulich Executive Vice President
James Kulich informs and leads the College's strategic initiatives. He joined the Elmhurst faculty in 1987 and served as chair of the Department of Mathematics before his appointment in 1997 as special assistant to the president. In 2004 he became executive vice president. A graduate of John Carroll University, he earned master's and doctoral degrees at Northwestern University. He serves as chair of the Advisory Council on Strategic Planning, which is working to craft a new strategic plan for the College.
Gary Rold Dean of Admission
Gary Rold is the architect of enrollment strategies that have enabled Elmhurst to welcome a succession of the largest and brightest entering classes in its history. He joined the College's staff in 1979 and served as director of financial aid before his appointment as dean of admission in 2003. A native of western Pennsylvania, he graduated from Slippery Rock State College, earned a master's degree at Eastern Illinois University, and served as an administrator at Illinois Institute of Technology before coming to Elmhurst. Peggy Sandgren Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations
Peggy Sandgren works to secure the philanthropic resources that will enable Elmhurst to become a more powerful force for good for its students and society. She came to the College in 2007 to lead its growing Office of Development and Alumni Relations. A native of Indiana and a graduate of Oakland City University, she has served as a development and alumni officer at DePauw University, the University of Evansville, Butler University, and Marian College.
Eileen Sullivan Dean of Students
Eileen Sullivan works to foster on the campus a deliberate sense of community, to make it a place where students pursue particular intellectual and personal interests while contributing meaningfully to the good of the whole. She came to Elmhurst in 2007 after prior administrative service at Loras College, Bowling Green State University, and Northern Illinois University. She earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from Eastern Illinois University and her doctorate from Bowling Green.
Alzada J. Tipton Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty
Alzada Tipton leads a talented faculty that is among the College's most impressive assets. She joined the Elmhurst administration in 2006 after serving twelve years as a faculty member and administrator at Hamline University. She holds a bachelor's degree from Johns Hopkins University and master's and doctoral degrees from Duke University. An associate professor of English at Elmhurst, she has published and presented extensively on Renaissance literature.
James W. Winters Vice President for Marketing
Jim Winters works to raise the College's visibility and enhance its reputation. He joined Elmhurst's staff in 1998 and leads the creative and strategic team that produces a wide array of print and electronic media for the College. A graduate of the University of Notre Dame, he began his career as managing editor of Notre Dame Magazine. He also served in senior creative positions at Chicago Magazine and at Lipman Hearne, the nation's largest marketing communications firm serving the not-for-profit sector.
