FAQs

When is the housing application due?
We encourage having your application and housing deposit received no later than February. Due to high housing demand, we do not guarantee having enough spaces for all interested students.

What if I apply after March 1?
If you apply for housing after March 1, we cannot guarantee that you will have a room for the upcoming school year. If space is available, however, we may be able to provide housing.

What if I decide I don't want to live at Elmhurst College after I have paid the housing deposit?
If you would like to cancel your housing request, send an email notification to reslife@elmhurst.edu or a facsimile to (630) 617-3722 by August 14.  The housing deposit is non-refundable.

Cancellation requests after August 14 (for those entering in the Fall Term) and December 15 (for those entering the January or Spring Terms) require submitting an Application for Release. For students continuing enrollment, submission of Application for Release does not guarantee release from the agreement.

How do I request a release from housing?
In order to be released from your housing contract, you must submit an Application for Release from License Agreement form. Filling out & submitting the form does not guarantee release from your License Agreement. Notification of decisions will be made to your Elmhurst College email account.

If I want a particular person to be my roommate, what do I do?
Each of you must notify us for this mutual request to be honored.  Send your request in writing to reslife@elmhurst.edu.

When will I know who my roommate is?
Room assignments are available on Bluenet early in August.

How are the bathrooms arranged?
Niebuhr, North, Schick, Stanger, and the lower level of Dinkmeyer Hall have community bathrooms, one on each wing or floor. Each shower is enclosed with a curtain. Dinkmeyer Hall (except the lower level) has a suite-style arrangement, with two rooms sharing a connecting bathroom/shower. Prospect, Elm Park, and Elmhurst Terrace Apartments have one bathroom per apartment. West Hall has 1 1/2 bathrooms per suite.  The houses have one or two bathrooms in them.

What about parking at Elmhurst College?
First-Year Students:  We value student engagement in the campus community as a cornerstone of a student's success in the first year of the collegiate experience.  With this in mind, it is the policy of Elmhurst College that first-year residential students not have cars on campus  Upper-class students:  If you're living in the residence halls, you'll have access to free parking in the nearby lots.  If you bring a vehicle to campus, you must register it (for free) with Campus Security.

What is an RA?
RAs (Resident Advisers) are students who live in the residence halls and apartments, acting as advisers. RAs plan social and educational activities for residents, help students with questions and concerns, and perform administrative tasks. An RA staffs every floor or wing of the residence halls or oversees an area in the apartments/houses.

What is an RLC?
The Residence Life Coordinator, or RLC, is a full-time professional (with a master's degree) who oversees the operation of the residence hall. The RLC provides educational opportunities and administrative support for the residents of the building.

Can I move the furniture around and create different arrangements?
Yes! Our OEM Loft System furniture uses a pin-and-hole design that makes the furniture very easy to rearrange. You don't even need special tools—all you need are pins (available through your RA or RLC) to hold the furniture together when it is stacked. Although some of the pieces are extremely heavy, there are many different options for design. Check out some of the possible arrangements.

If you have any additional questions, feel free to contact us via e-mail or at 630-617-3150.
