Conference Housing Assistant
Conference housing assistants work with a wide variety of organizations that use the College's facilities over the summer. Students in this live-in, paid summertime position develop valuable customer service skills and live on campus for the duration of the job. Please click on the Job Description for more information and the Application if you are interested in applying for the job. You may contact the Office of Residence Life at (630) 617-3150 or Rachael Willits at (630) 617-3364 for further information.
Hall Government
Hall governments are student-led organizations that sponsor events and promote the development of students and their communities. Each hall's government meets on a regular basis and plans programs such as scavenger hunts, theme dances, building Olympics, band showcases, community service projects, and barbecues. Participating in hall government builds students' leadership, programming, and interpersonal skills. Membership in hall governments is open to all campus residents. See your Resident Adviser or your Residence Life Coordinator for more details.
Peer Review Board
The Residence Life Peer Review Board hears judicial cases involving policy violations that occur within the residence halls. Board members help establish community expectations and standards from a peer point of view. To apply, you must live in the residence halls and have sophomore standing or higher. If interested, complete the application by October 18 at 4 p.m.
Resident Adviser
The Resident Advisers (RAs) or Apartment Resident Advisers (ARAs) plan and implement social and educational programs, foster a sense of community among residents, develop leadership skills, promote a well-balanced and healthy environment in the residence halls/apartments/houses, and serve as advisers for the other members of the residential community. RAs also represent the Office of Residence Life at many College functions, including orientation and recruitment of prospective students. RAs have the most frequent and direct communication with resident students. Therefore they have an outstanding opportunity to contribute to the development and education of individuals. They also have the responsibility of implementing programs and policies through which the mission and goals of the Office of Residence Life can be accomplished. It is our expectation that the RA is sincerely interested in the welfare of the students of Elmhurst College. More about the specifics for each position can be found at Resident Adviser and Apartment Adviser.
There are two selection processes: 1) a Mid-Year process for any RA or ARA vacancies that might become available after the Fall Term, and 2) a Fall process for candidates interested in applying to be an RA or ARA for the 2012-2013 academic year.
Candidates interested in applying for the RA position may apply by selecting the "RA or ARA Application" under the Residence Life section of BlueNet and logging into the Office of Residence Life Online Applications. You may access the Residence Life Online Applications page directly by following this link.
Please note that candidates who are studying abroad in the spring term of 2012, but would like to be considered for the 2012-2013 academic year, should apply during the Mid-Year process. First year students are not eligible to be an RA until the Fall of 2012 and should apply during the Fall process. Applications are due by Friday, October 28 at 4:00 p.m. The Mid Year process was completed on Friday, October 28.
Candidates interested in applying for the Fall process may apply by following the same instructions above. The Fall applications will be live on Monday, November 21. Applications are due by Tuesday, January 17 at 4:00 p.m. Fall RA Application
Fall 2012 Selection Timeline
A Fall RA Alternate serves in the alternate pool should an RA position become available during the summer. If an alternate RA is needed, a candidate from the alternate pool would be selected to fill the immediate vacancy and become an RA. A vacancy may be in any of the residence halls or apartment communities, so Fall RA Alternates should be open to living anywhere. If an alternate RA is not needed, candidates in the alternate pool may reapply for the midyear vacancies and or Fall 2012 positions.
