Theme Communities & Housing Options

Living on campus at Elmhurst offers all the amenities of home—plus the convenience of close proximity to classes, the library, the gym and all your favorite student activities. Our Theme Communities and Housing Options offer additional opportunities to residents who live in these communities, such as unique programming and leadership options and the chance to live among students who share your interests.

First-Year Residential ExperienceCommunity
The First-Year Residential Experience (FYRE) community is a living and learning environment that is dedicated to the personal and academic growth and development of first-year students. The program is developed around Elmhurst College’s five Core Values and offers students additional engagement opportunities with faculty and residence life staff, including leadership workshops, service learning, team building activities and off-campus social events. FYRE residents will develop:

  • Knowledge of their own leadership style and how to maximize this potential
  • Actively participate in service learning opportunities with their floor
  • Integrate classroom learning with non-academic activities
  • Develop supportive relationships with faculty members

Transfer Student Community
The transfer student themed community is designed to promote a seamless transition for new transfer students while joining the Elmhurst College Community.  This co-ed community will allow students opportunities to become full members of the College while gaining key life skills to help navigate toward future goals.  Residents in this community will:

  • Have opportunities to participate in a variety of Elmhurst College experiences with other students who live on the floor
  • Be offered several programs tailored to the floor on academic success, career goals, and resources at Elmhurst
  • Explore the importance of leadership within their life experiences by engaging in various leadership development opportunities

Honors Program Community

  • Exposure to students with a great diversity of majors, minors and academic interests
  • Living with like-minded students who respect one another
  • Developing a community of excellence centered around the Honors Program focusing on the importance of academics and intellectual life
