This show brings together selected paintings and drawings from Frankel's early period (1984-2007) and the current work she began in 2008. The early paintings are lively descriptions of hat forms and materials with meshes, dashes, squiggles and lines, patterns and space. Her current work turns away from direct observation towards abstraction based both on her deep understanding of the pattern and spatial qualities of the hats and her recent interest in the shapes of bridges, where repeated patterns are felt as rhythmical movements.
