The Caucasian Chalk Circle

Elmhurst College Theatre

The Caucasus mountains of Russia serve as a setting for this highly theatrical exploration of morality, ethics and survival. Written on the heels of World War II, Brecht’s epic parable pushes us into the chaos and aftermath of civil war. Amidst the turbulence, a governor’s wife abandons her child and a servant cares for it. When peace subsides, a corrupt judge tries to determine which of the women is the true mother. In a contest of might vs. right, who wins?
