About the Program

Philosophy: The program is organized around a central theme: Teaching as a catalyst for change. It’s designed to advance your knowledge, skills, and thinking as a classroom teacher in ways that will not only enhance your own practice but also will enable you to serve as a leader and change agent within your school community and the teaching profession. Classes are small and highly interactive. Courses are constantly updated to meet the changing needs of today’s teachers.

Curriculum: This is a 10-course, 30-hour program. It offers a progressive alternative to more conventional master’s programs in curriculum and instruction. You’ll study current issues and apply best practices in education; develop innovative projects for your classroom and school community; and gain the advanced tools you need to become a catalyst for change. You’ll also master the latest classroom technologies and research methods, and improve your communication and team-building skills.

Faculty: You’ll study with faculty in our Department of Education—all with classroom experience, all experts in their fields. Our faculty knows what it takes to succeed in the classroom; they’ve done it themselves. You’ll form partnerships with them in pursuit of learning, and prepare to step with confidence into professional leadership.

Advising: You’ll work face to face with a dedicated faculty advisor to create the schedule of courses that fits your academic and professional goals.

Practicalities: You’ll earn your degree on a schedule that works for you. You can receive credit for up to two prior graduate courses. You’ll study cutting-edge materials without paying extra for them.
