Women's Care Center
The Student Health Service offers a range of women's health services and takes responsibility for coordinating any care necessary to deliver outstanding preventative services, diagnostic services, treatment of conditions and therapy.
The Women's Care Center is a safe haven where your questions and concerns will be heard and answered in private. Information is strictly confidential. Services are free (except for certain medications and lab fees, if indicated).
Services include:
Annual exam Contraceptive counseling Pregnancy testing and counseling Emergency contraception Abstinence support Assessment and treatment of menstrual problems (including PMS) Support and referrals for abuse, violence, and sexual assault Referral to a specialist, if indicated
Annual exam
- Health and family history review
- Discussion of health and behavioral habits
- Menstrual history review
- Thyroid exam
- Breast exam and self-breast exam instruction
- Pelvic exam
- Pap smear
- STD testing, if indicated
- Review of specific health concerns, i.e. recurring problems, nutrition, well-being, exercise, etc.

Contraceptive counseling Counseling services include:
- Education on all available methods of birth control (condoms, spermicidal, oral contraceptive pills, Depo-Provera, diaphragm, IUD, vaginal ring, natural family planning, etc.)
- Aid in preventing unwanted pregnancy
- Additional education related to sexual health
- Oral contraceptives for other purposes, such as treating amenorrhea (lack of periods), irregular or painful periods, or acne
- Emergency contraception (morning after pills)
Contraceptives are available at Student Health Service or through a referral.

Pregnancy testing and counseling Any woman who suspects she may be pregnant should consider this service, which includes:
- Urine test to identify or rule out pregnancy (can be done 1st day period is missed)
- Blood test, if indicated
- Referrals

Emergency contraception The "morning-after pill" may be used within 72 hours after unprotected sex to protect against unwanted pregnancy. Emergency contraception may be indicated if:
- Birth control was not used
- Forgot to take birth control pills
- Barrier method failed (i.e., condom broke)
- Sexually assaulted or raped
This service includes:
- Urine pregnancy test
- Morning-after pills and instructions on how to take them
