Major in Environmental Studies
The Environmental Studies Program provides a strong interdisciplinary core curriculum for all majors with two undergraduate degree options:
- The interdisciplinary Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Studies provides a foundation in policy, sciences, and humanities with advanced elective coursework.
- The interdisciplinary Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Studies places a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
All Environmental Studies majors will take the following core courses with a minimum grade of C- for 12 course credits:
Environmental Studies Core
- ES 100 Introduction to Environmental Studies
- ES 200 Environmental Science I
- ES 201 Environmental Science II
- POL 201 American Federal Government
- ECO 211 Principles of Macroeconomics
- ES/URB 320 Sustainable Urban Development
- PHL 312 Environmental Ethics
- COM 327 Environmental Communication
- POL 365 Environmental Politics and Policy
- MTH 345 Elementary Statistics (may substitute MTH 346 or PSY 355)
- ES 400 Practical Applications of Environmental Studies
- ES 499 Senior Capstone
Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies
Students pursuing the Bachelor of Arts degree must complete:
- Environmental Studies Core
- Three course credits of approved Environmental Studies electives
Students should check with the program director for currently approved electives.
Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies
Students pursuing the Bachelor of Science degree must complete:
- Environmental Studies Core
- One additional Mathematics course chosen from MTH 132 Precalculus, MTH 151 Calculus I or MTH 152 Calculus II
- A minor (or double major) in one of the following fields:
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Computer Science
Minor in Environmental Studies
An Environmental Studies minor consists of a minimum of five course credits, including three required ES core courses:
- ES 100 Introduction to Environmental Studies
- ES 200 Environmental Science I
- ES 201 Environmental Science II
- Two electives selected from any other 300/400-level Environmental Studies course (ES) or COM 327, ENG 375, HIS 354, PHL 312, POL 365, or other related course approved by the ES Program Director.
